Situated in the heart of London’s Royal Victoria Dock, the ExCeL exhibition and convention centre is the host venue for a variety of events from award winning exhibitions and conferences to international association meetings, and award ceremonies.
The principle contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine designed the original centre’s 14,000m2 pre-cast concrete deck were appointed to undertake the civil and structural design of a new phase of works to merge seamlessly with the existing venue.
The expansion works included provision of a suspended transportation service road running from Prince Regent Station to the complex.On completion of the constructed suspended transportation service road, Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs Limited were called in by P.J. Careys who undertook all the concrete construction to provide their specialist knowledge and expertise to Waterproof 2,500m2 to the service road deck.
The work Cemplas were tasked with required a very fast turnaround as the handover ceremony by the principle contractor was only a week away. Cemplas surveyors visited the site on the Monday,work started on the Thursday, and backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee, the work was fully completed in two days allowing the Tarmac to take place over the weekend, and the handover ceremony to take place the following week.
To meet the demands of today’s fast track programmes without compromising on performance, Cemplas used Grace Servidek Traffic Deck System, a two component, rubber/bitumen liquid applied waterproofing system with protection boards to provide a durable waterproofing and protection system capable of accepting various wearing surfaces subjected to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Due to the time constraints, this was yet another challenging project for Cemplas completed in record time, proving yet again Cemplas provides an uncompromising approach to quality of service, and pride themselves with their knowledge and experience gained since they were formed in 1969.
