Cemplas were engaged as Principal Contractor to deliver a multi-discipline refurbishment of the basement car park and multi-use sports surface which forms the roof of the car park.

Before: Dark & Unwelcoming Environment

During: Application of Spray Applied Waterproofing

During: Screeding Reinstatement

The podium deck had historic water ingress resulting in damaged vehicles due to the sports surface being at the end of it’s serviceable life. The existing Lytag screed was excavated down to the structural slab before being waterproofed with Sika’s spray applied Sikalastic 8800 and Combiflex joints. A new screed was installed to reinstate levels which was also waterproofed to ensure there would be no more water penetration. A new ‘all-weather’ sports surface – including Sports Shock Pad and Sports Needlepunch Carpet – was installed with various linemarking for the community to use.

The surrounding walkways and courtyard – totalling some 400m2 were upgraded using Sika’s fully reinforced RB58 anti-slip system with bespoke quartz sand for aesthetic. Our client wanted to enhance their structure’s aesthetics by adding green roofs near the entrance of the car park.

To reduce disruption for the residents, phasing works and plastic shielding were used while the basement car park was cleaned and fully encapsulated and waterproofed using Sika 1, a cementitious render to extend the life of the structure for many years to come.

Due to the nature of this project and the sports pitch being a focal point in the estate for residents, the client and ourselves are organising a football training session and tournament with Croydon Football Club for the residents to participate in. We will also be entering this project in the ‘Parking in the Community Award’ at the British Parking Awards 2022.
