The scope of this refurbishment was to re-waterproof the exposed split-level top deck of this lift-slab structure, which had come to the end of its serviceable life and needed to be replaced.

Before: Dark & Unwelcoming Environment

Before: Split & Damaged Decks

During: Waterproofing To Upstands

Given the structure type and consideration of the maximum possible weight loadings, specialist preparation plant and machinery was used to removed nearly 6,000m2 of the top deck waterproofing. Due to the local authority having flagged the requirement for the works, only minimal repair was required to the concrete substrate.

Following these works, levels 6 & 7 were re-waterproofed with Sika’s spray applied Sikalastic 8800 which to this day, the project is the largest UK application of the unique, highly crack bridging and extremely fast curing car park decking system using polyurea technology.

With the car park having to remain in constant use during working hours, such restriction meant an increase of contractor traffic continuously throughout the car park which had to remain in use at all times; continuous traffic management was required to protect both users and workforce alike.

Despite the challenge, the close vicinity of retail and residential, control measures were in place to contain noise levels and reducing nuisance for nearby neighbours and the project was delivered in good time and the 250 parking space on the top deck were back in use, ready for the busy Christmas shopping period.

During: Application of Spray Applied Waterproofing

After: Light & Bright Exterior Improvements

After: Fully Protected Decks
